I purchased a used beat up Elite controller a few weeks ago for $25. The grips on the handles were completely gone and some of the grip on the back of the controller was peeling off. That grip that was peeling off, I went ahead and took it off off so it was left only the plastic had shell.

I ordered the rear back shell and a pair of hand rails, which both have grips properly placed. With this order, the back shell came with a tool to remove the screws. It's a nice addition to the order, but I already had a tool that has various sizes to remove those types of screws.

First step is to remove the handrails to expose four screws. A fifth screw is in the battery compartment are under the sticker.

Once teh screws are removed, the front and back shells are easily removed and you're left with the circuit board and all the controls still attached.

Below you'll see the small circuit board which are the paddle contols. I had to remove this from the old one and place it on the new one.

In the next picture, here I have the (top shell) old back shell with the board. The new one is the bottom one.

I have no installed the small board to the new back shell.

Now I'm in the process of placing the main circuit board and controls on the new back shell first.

Below, I have added the front shell and have placed all the required screws to hold the controller together.

Below, I have attached the new handrails and as you can see, looks good as new.

Total cost for all this was:
    Controller - $25
    Back shell - $10
    Hand rails - $18
    Total - $53

Only took about 15-20 minutes to do. Since this is the first time I ever done something like this, I was taking it slow and making sure I dont pull on any wires. There is a ribbon that connects the paddle circuit board to the main board, so I didnt want to rip that.

After reading your post i went straight on to eBay and found a controller in similar condition. Let the bidding commence.

Nice. You can find a complete controller with all parts for $70+ but in acceptable condition. But buying on that's beat up but still functional is the way to go. Then you can buy the missing parts for less.

I can tell you this, I had to wait about 2-3 weeks for the back shell because it was shipped from China. Why did I get there, because it was $10 shipped. The ones I found in the US, they wanted $20+. The hand rails I did get them here in the US because they were about $6-7 each from iFixIt and they shipped fast.

Now I'm considering buying a new front shell but one of those custom colored ones or something that has a nice design....you know for fun. This wont be until later.

    Wow!
That is so cool. I, on the other hand, am a total disaster when it comes to things such at this.
